The AA says it is advisable to ensure you employ a reliable vehicle to handle your family safely back and forth from your holiday destination. HOLIDAY SAFETY The AA recommends that vehicles be serviced before any long trip which drivers are very well rested before triggering. Make sure: • All tyres come in good condition and mould to regulations (such as spare tyre) • That brakes and shock-absorbers are tested and in good shape • That the battery continues to be in good • That the windscreen wipers work • All windows and mirrors provide good visibility • All electrical components (including lights and indicators) will work and, should you be towing a caravan or trailer, the electrical feed through your tow hitch is working • Your AA membership is perfectly up to date so you carry your membership card with you • That you have the AA Rescue App downloaded <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theaa.android.theaa&hl=en> on your cellphone PLAN AHEAD The AA recommends that road users use a detailed route planned with regards to trip knowning that drivers stop for any break every couple of hours or 200km. High crash- and death-rates are already reported over the Easter holidays so be vigilant and alert traveling. The AA comments: "Adhering to speed limits and tweaking a safe following distance are crucial, along with ensuring all passengers wear a seat belt. "While the Easter weekend begins on Friday April 3 the inland school term ended on March 25 which ends up in an increase in traffic around the N3, N4, N1 and N2. The N1 to Limpopo will likely be especially busy about the days before Good Friday as people in the Zion Christian Church check out Moria because of their annual pilgrimage. "Drivers ought to be aware of the expected heavier traffic on those times and for the days before April 13 when schools resume with regards to second term."
