Vacation to Paris

How to dress for winter vacation to Paris, France

Picture
Parisian women are famous because of their effortless style and innate fashion sense. So what will be the rest of us to try and do when packing for the winter day at Paris? Think simplicity, comfort and understated elegance.

Can a fancy dress be stylish yet comfortable too? Oui! Here are our strategies for what to pack this winter:

  • Black-plus-neutralsBlack, plus neutrals
You will NEVER feel misplaced in basic black. You will see black everywhere, from casual to business wear to formal attire. Choose black since your base, and mix with 1 or 2 other core neutrals, like cream (winter white), gray, or tan. Black slacks which are warm but comfortable will probably be your mainstay. French women wear chic jeans, with fashion boots and shoes, but never with running sneakers. They would 't be caught dead in public places in athletic wear, unless they’re actually jogging for the Champs de Mars from the 7th! If you have the figure for doing this, skinny black jeans, or leggings to pair with sweaters, blouses, jackets, etc. can also be good bets. If you grow fed up with black, you may change up with gray or navy slacks.
  • Overcoat
Paris winters is usually cold and blustery, with a few snowy days. But it's not the North Pole! You won’t have to have a parka! Low temperatures rarely fall below the 20’s F˚/-6 C˚, with highs from the upper 30’s to low 40’s F˚/-1 to 4 C˚. You may be at ease with a nice all-weather overcoat or trench coat (black) that has a zip out lining, or perhaps a black or charcoal wool pea coat, or “walking length” coat is often in style. We like this Michael Cors black trench coat.
  • Scarves
Of course, no outfit is complete without having a winter scarf. Wool, pashmina and cashmere have become popular. Bring one, but consider buying several in Paris. For great prices on designer scarves, take a look at our favorite Paris designer consignment stores, Reciproque, where it is possible to pick up a barely-worn Herme’ scarf for half the value. Alternatively, see what are the best designer overstock store in Paris is wearing sale, Catherine Max. Both stores are located from the 16th arrondissement, an
enjoyable outing and simple hop derived from one of to the other. Scarves are excellent gifts to create home at the same time. For scarf bargains, have a look at Monoprix, such as a smaller French Target, or maybe the stands outside of the big shops on Blvd. Haussman. And when someone asks you years later that you got that nice scarf, you reply, ”Oh this? I picked this in Paris”. Here is a handy site we learned that includes five different YouTube videos of how to tie your scarves. Check out the 4th video by Mireille Guiliano (author of French Women Don’t Get Fat). We like her unique idea.
  • Boots
Boots of styles are popular to pair with slacks. Now, fit, can someone really walk top to bottom the cobble stone hills of Montmartre in boots? Can you really look for a comfortable boot that may see you through hours of strolling the Louvre? Maybe. We like Merrell or Clarke walking shoes for comfort, and still have our eye on these black suede Clark boots. They look stylish yet comfortable too.

What are the favorite boots/shoes? If you’ve found the perfect combination of comfort and class, please give our readers inside comments.
  • Purse
Large fashion and designer bags are however you like this season, nonetheless they take up room as part of your luggage, please remember, you don’t wish to tote much purse around sightseeing all day long. Something lightweight, but large enough for the folding umbrella, a water bottle and map, and also your other necessities (do you know what color matches everything?). Some ladies such as a shoulder strap that is usually worn over the chest or maybe a body hugging style worn in the arm. We just like the Baggallini brand, that is lightweight, sturdy, stylish and affordable. Their zip out shopping bag is a vital item for bringing back your complete purchases! We like jackets which may have inside zipped pockets for wallets. Alternatively, get a tiny zipped bag that you are able to slip on using your jacket for valuables and cell phone.
  • sunny-days-in-winter Gloves
A nice warm couple of (black!) kid gloves will work nicely. Save your ski gloves for Chamonix.
  • Jewelry
Less is much more. Think a few nice pieces, just like a belt more than a sweater, a simple two of earrings, or maybe a fashion watch or bracelet. We highly recommend leaving good jewelry in your own home, when you don’t need to tempt pick-pockets within the metro. Paris is usually very safe, but there’s pointless to tempt fate.
  • Sunglasses
Why not? Many outdoor café’s are heated and such as French, it is possible to sit outside sipping a café au lait within the winter sunshine in stylish sunglasses, looking very Catherine Deneuve! You probably won’t have too many sunny days in the wintertime. But who cares?
Winter is an excellent time to get to Paris! There is a great deal to see and do in Paris, you'll never be bored! And transformation reason to make Paris inside winter instead of save 30% off our gorgeous luxury Paris Perfect apartment rentals! Oh la la!

And don’t ignore the Winter Sales (Soldes) that officially start taking January 12. This is a fun time to visit Paris for coupons on everything!
