Norway the vikings land
The largest city and the capital in Norway is Oslo. The name was created from Old Norse. The city is beautifully situated for the head of Oslo Fjord in the middle of forested ridges, and this also very location gives Oslo unexpected qualities for just a national capital. Oslo is the hub of Norway’s international and national travel.

During the 1800s, Sweden and Norway were ruled jointly kingdom, under Karl Johan. It was then which the street Karl Johnas Gate was built and named after him. In 1905 the continent separated from Sweden, plus 1925 an act of Parliament finally changed the city’s name to Oslo. Today, Oslo is Norway’s political, industrial, economic and cultural capital. The Norwegian royal family lives in here, and it's the place that the Nobel peace prize is awarded.

The city has great public transport, from modern subway system a harbor ferry and also a trolley cars.

Many Norwegians cut costs with drinks at friends houses known as the forschpiel before going for the town. Some bars around town remain quiet until 11 PM or midnight. Day or night, everyone is usually on Karl Johans Gate, and plenty of restaurants and clubs inside the central area stay open before early hours. A more mature upmarket crowd ventures in the market to the less busy west side to Frogner and Bygd. Aker Brygge, has lots of bars plus some nightclubs, attracting mostly tourists, couples on first dates and others happy to spend extra for your waterfront location.
