With the vacations just around the corner, it’s no real shock that many folks will likely be travelling. Below are a few tips to apartment safety on vacation:
Be careful what we share on social media marketing channels. While it’s entirely tempting to post on Facebook that “I’m going home for the week - can’t wait!” consider who can read it. If you have your website, twitter feed or Foursquare account - your followers/readers are typically
less personal than friends on Facebook, even.
Hopefully, chances are you have a neighbor which team you trust. If so - tell her/him your travel plans and have that he/she let you know if they notice anything suspicious. In the absence of a reliable neighbor, consider telling your landlord.
If you’ll be going home for more than a 4-5 days, stop your mail. You are able to do so online nearly 30 days upfront!
If your apartment faces the highway, get a light timer making sure that outside eyes think someone reaches home.
If you've got a cab driving you for the airport, be discreet. Consider emphasizing that a “roommate” won’t be going home for the holiday season.
If you haven’t already gotten renters insurance, consider investing. My insurance coverage is about $175 to the ENTIRE YEAR. Not a bad value - should. Read more about its benefits inside our previous post.
