Surf vacation

Tips to capture surfing photos

Picture
Are you arranging a vacation to surfing? Learn how to capture the excitement from the waves in this article. If you have ever gone surfing you probably know how great it might be. Capturing the action and thrill from the surf may give equal excitement and still provide memories of vacations and instances when the waves were perfect. To capture the surf, you'll want to be well equipped and shoot surfing photos using the right techniques.
  • Digital camera
Choose a digital camera, should work all right for surf photography on vacation. Surfers are usually in the stream if the sun provides enough light the place you don't to boost your digital camera until the light is a problem (unlike nightime football camp). Advantages a higher digital camera would be the faster frame rates (having the ability to shoot at 5 or higher frames per second is suggested), weather and sand proof bodies, and even more advanced auto focusing systems for faster plus much more accurate focusing. That said, any digital camera must be able to match the challenge since we'll be shooting in the decent level of light (even during dawn and dusk).
  • Lens selection
You should have a standard contact (24-70mm or similar equivalent) to capture wide shots in the beach and surfers as well as a telephoto (300mm or maybe more) to obtain close up for the action. The longer and wider aperture the lens has, the closer you'll be able for getting while blurring the surfer's background. Be warned, these lenses will get very costly!
  • Waterproof camera
If one happens to possess a waterproof camera and shoot, movie luck. Use the waterproofing for getting close up to surfers and achieve a new perspective. Try getting down low into the lake (or maybe underwater) for unique shots. If that you are a surfer, it's also possible to try along with your surfboard when you ride the waves.
  • Other Accessories
A monopod and ball head might help to lessen the stress on your arms depending on how long you're planning on shooting. A tripod is likely to obstruct and slow you down.
  • Using a Point and Shoot
Using a spot and shoot camera is doable. Most consumer compacts usually do not offer enough zoom to obtain close enough on your subject therefore you are on a wider shots. This can be made more interesting by standing further back within the beach and shooting with something inside foreground (child playing inside sand, the beach, onlookers, etc.) These foreground elements help set the scene and/or help tell a narrative together with surfing photos on vacation. If you have the possibility to go out using a pier near where surfers are surfing, make sure to capture the beach, surfers and waves.
  • Ultra-zoom
Other ultra-zoom point and digital cameras have longer lenses. These can aid you in getting close up to surfers, but the lenses usually are not as sharp as those who are in an SLR. To make things harder, that you are also really at risk of camera shake when zoomed out to date and there is a significant delay at the time you press the shutter till each time a surf photo is taken. A digital camera with a better lens can mitigate these complaints.
